Councils are continuing to develop Community Plans and Preferred Options Papers as part of their local Development Plans.
Belfast, Lisburn and Castlereagh, Ards/North Down, Mid-Ulster and Antrim/Newtownabbey are Councils whose consultations on Community Plans have either recently closed or will be closing shortly. These plans represent a mix of approaches to sustainability. Most encourage sustainability, either through energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, addressing climate change, incorporating sustainable development as a guiding principle or a combination of these and other objectives. However, few make specific reference to the promotion of sustainable energy, and some Councils actively seek to restrict renewable energy developments.
NIRIG will be responding to each consultation and participating actively in the Development Plan process.
